An Event to Remember: Snapshots from Supercomputing 2017

Supercomputing 2017 (SC17) was held in Denver, Colorado this year from the 13th through the 16th of November. It was a very successful event for Altair and the HPC industry. Nearly 13,000 people traveled to Denver, the Mile High City, just for SC17 and strolled through a show floor hosting 350+ exhibitors to learn about the latest trends in HPC, cloud computing, AI, machine learning, data analytics, and many other topics.

This year, the Altair booth featured the exciting new product line-up of the upcoming (Q1 2018) PBS Works 2018 suite including PBS Access, a brand-new and intuitive gateway for HPC users, PBS Control, a powerful portal for system administrators to manage their HPC infrastructure, and PBScloud.io, a platform which enables the seamless deployment of HPC appliances on both public and private clouds, as well as bare-metal infrastructures. Look for additional information and launch dates for all the new products to be provided on www.pbsworks.com in early 2018.

Traffic to the Altair booth was at an all-time high this year, thanks to the many activities scheduled throughout the week in Denver. 10 exciting customer presentations attracted over 200 attendees, highlighting how PBS Works helps accelerate innovation. These presentations featured strategic clients such as Orbital ATK, Versum Materials, UNLV, NSCC, and the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Many workshops for more personalized hands-on demos of the PBS Works products. Workshop attendees were guided through a step-by-step review of the PBS software platform. “In a short amount of time, customers gain a deeper understanding of PBS Professional’s core capabilities and learn practical tips that can be employed immediately to optimize their computing environment,” said Manish Amin, Altair PBS Works EC Training Specialist.

The Altair booth hosted a fun tiki bar that distributed over 500 smoothies to our visitors!

Altair also showcased Carriots, its IoT platform, WEYV, its new entertainment app, and its latest HPC product addition Runtime, which was recently acquired by Altair.

During SC17, Altair was awarded Cray’s prestigious “2017 Supplier of the Year” Award. This is the first time that a software company has been selected for this award. “Altair is honored to have been named 2017 Supplier of the Year by Cray. This recognition means a lot to us, as our relationship has spanned more than 15 years and together we work hard to bring best-in-class solutions to our customers,” said Sam Mahalingam, Chief Technical Officer of Altair.

“It was gratifying to see the ambitious undertaking from the Altair employees who promoted and collaborated on our upcoming release of the 2018 PBS products. We look forward to an even larger booth space in 2018 so we can prominently feature the Runtime and IoT products as part of our strong software offering.” said Sam Mahalingam, Altair Chief Technology officer.

Supercomputing 2018 will be held November 12-15th at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Center in Dallas Texas. Stop by the Altair booth next year and see what new and exciting things we will bring to the show. See you in Dallas!
