How about a lightweight sports car demonstrating the latest cutting-edge digital technology? Phiaro did just that to celebrate their 75th Anniversary vehicle – P75 CIPHER. By using the entire HyperWorks suite throughout the design process, Phiaro achieved in creating a lightweight sports car while exhibiting world-class styling and drivability. Altair’s multibody dynamics solutions like MotionSolve, HyperMesh, OptiStruct, AcuSolve, and RADIOSS were effectively utilized to design the suspension and vehicle handling of the P75 CIPHER. The vehicle was on display at the 2015 Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland.
Located in Niiza City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, Phiaro Corporation, Inc. has been in business since 1939. In commemoration of the company’s 75th Anniversary, engineers developed an original design clubman racer’s concept car, dubbed the P75 CIPHER. The car’s drivetrain combines a 5-speed manual transmission with a Vitz RS 1.5L engine (144ps) mid-ship in an ultra-lightweight tubular frame. P75 CIPHER is a drivable prototype, weighing in at 596 kg with a wheelbase of 2350 mm, overall length of 3640 mm, width of 1750m, and height of 1045mm.
While the size and look of the racecar is compact and edgy, the features, package layout, and chassis follow a classic mid-engine sports car design. A very favorable review may be found here on AutoBlog. The P75 CIPHER design development process relied heavily upon computer-aided engineering (CAE) and other digital tools. The name itself stands for CAE-Integrated PHiaro-Engineered Racer.
Having used Altair’s comprehensive CAE suite HyperWorks for structural, crash, durability, mechanical, and fluid dynamics analysis, Phiaro presented at the 2014 Japan Altair Technology Conference. Presentations are available to download in Japanese. We were pleased to have Phiaro present again at the 2015 Japan Altair Technology Conference!
