Altair Technology Conference Poland 2018 – 10 Years of Great Cooperation with DES ART

This post was written by guest author Joanna Domaradzka, DES ART sp. z o.o. Marketing Manager. DES ART is a longtime reseller and Altair Channel Partner .

While researching information about Poland, there are several cities mentioned in the guides as “must visit” destinations. One of them is Gdańsk – a city on the Baltic coast, with a rich, interesting history and where the Solidarity was born. Beautiful surroundings and a great geographical location led DES ART to choose Gdańsk as the location of this year’s Altair Technology Conference (ATC) Poland. This event was also unique because together with Altair, we are celebrating 10 years of cooperation and DES ART is celebrating its 15th company anniversary.

DES ART organized the conference in one of the 5-star hotels right in the center of Old Town. That also gave an opportunity for attendees to briefly see the beautiful Gdańsk architecture and feel the spirit of this town. The main conference took place on May 10th and was followed by a jubilee dinner. The next day, live-demos of HyperWorks took place at attendee workshops. It was the first time the ATC Poland last for two days and also the first event with such a big turnout. The interest was so great in this year’s event that registration had to be closed early! No wonder, because this year’s speaker agenda was exceptionally interesting. Attendees joined from many different countries around the globe to hear speakers.

The conference opened with the President of Altair, Brett Chouinard, who presented the Altair vision, its progress, and future company roadmap. After this introduction, the voice was given to DES ART.  President of the Board – Katarzyna Safuryn and Business Development Manager – Dr. ETH Grzegorz W. Wiśniewski spoke about 15 years of CAE development by presenting examples of calculations made for clients from various industries. Of course, all projects were done using Altair software. The next presentation was made by ZF TRW Group. Their representative showed the calculation of ZF airbag firing based on Finite Volume Method usage within RADIOSS. ZF was followed by Airbus Helicopters who talked about numerical modeling of helicopter structure with the use of Altair HyperWorks.

Due to the growing popularity of electromagnetic analysis, the FEKO software demo could not be missed that day. Orange Poland presented how FEKO was used to analyze the antenna parameters. Among the speakers there also was a representative of the largest Polish manufacturer of rail vehicles – PESA Bydgoszcz. The company presented aerodynamic analyses of rail vehicles along with optimization of shock absorber brackets made in AcuSolve and OptiStruct. After that came Stalprodukt – Polish leading manufacturer and exporter of highly processed steel products. They presented how important the use of HyperMesh and HyperView were to their virtual testing.

Next was a presentation from APITV – a company that was responsible for the first gesture control system for the automotive industry and the first autonomous vehicle that crossed the US. They spoke about the use of electromagnetic simulations in the process of radars integration in a vehicle. The simulations were all done using FEKO software.

We also couldn’t miss the military sector, as Altair solutions perfectly suit the needs of it. Military Institute of Armament Technology showed attendees how the numerical methods can be used in designing and testing armament components.

Last, but not least, the final presentation was from the academia world, which was represented by Poznan University of Technology. Their graduate talked about the unique project MOTH, the problems he encountered in designing the MOTH2 vehicle, and how OptiStruct helped him to solve all of them and optimize construction.

The day ended with the official jubilee dinner where we celebrated our anniversary of cooperation with Altair, as well as our fifteenth year as a company. The evening was full of surprises and entertainment. The magic of this night was highlighted with a great performance by magician Tomasz Jusza, who enchanted guests with his skills and sense of humor. During the dinner, DES ART also signed a letter of intent of cooperation with BIBUS MENOS – a Polish-Swiss company that develops and offers 3D printing solutions. It is a milestone in popularizing Altair’s solidThinking product suite in Poland. The party was so great that it lasted till 3 AM.

On the second day, attendees met at Altair HyperWorks live-demo workshops. The meetings were divided into 4 blocks and focused on new solutions and integration between different HyperWorks tools. DES ART representatives talked about material models for explicit analyses, managing the FEM model parameters using an Excel spreadsheet, specifics of FEM models preparation for electromagnetic analyses, and the creation of a composite model and its strength analysis.

These two days in Poland were full of new inspirations, ideas, and knowledge. With over 85 attendees from 64 companies and universities, participants networked and learned a lot. It also gave them an opportunity to see and touch the real products manufactured with the help of Altair solutions. Among the exhibits, we could see a racecar from PWR Racing Team, the MOTH2 vehicle, and a VW aggregate carrier optimized with HyperWorks. It’s amazing how many great different products are being engineered with the power of Altair.

ATC events happen all around the globe and there’s still time to join in 2018! Find a local ATC event near you: www.altairatc.com
