Altair Congratulates The University of Michigan Solar Car Team on their Successful Finish

This summer, the University of Michigan Solar Car Team revealed their 13th vehicle –Aurum, a completely new and redesigned solar vehicle that the team has been working on for the past two years just for this week’s 2015 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia. Altair is extremely proud to be a Platinum Sponsor for the team this year. The Aurum team began using Altair’s OptiStruct software early in the design and development process of the vehicle, achieving great results in weight reduction while increasing overall strength and reliability. The team then continued to optimize the vehicle throughout the engineering and building process to improve performance. We were thrilled and excited to see how this new car performed in the competition!

 

After four days of intense racing, which started in the city of Darwin on October 18, and ended in the city of Adelaide, Team Aurum finished 4th out of 29 teams! The University of Michigan Solar Car Team was the first American team to cross the finish line! The team endured a 3,000 km journey, all documented in their blog. We congratulate this team’s outstanding accomplishments in the 2015 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge!
